Hello,

I have a son almost 12 with low self esttem who can only type 8 wpm. He has been told he has to have his speed up to 20wpm by the fall. He also has ADHD and I do not want another "thing" to nag him about. Are there any stories I can show him about successes of kids his age?

Thanks,

Alexander

Dear Alexander,

We understand how frustrating it can be to be different than others, to be labeled and expected not to succeed, and to have difficulty learning things that seem easy to others.

The first thing that your son should do is to check out the success of Thomas Edison. Tom was put in special classes because the teachers and psychologists said he didn’t pay attention, was hyper active, and otherwise resembled what is now called ADHD (though it didn’t have that label then).

Tom’s mother refused to believe her son was inferior, and insisted that he just had different ways of learning. She took him out of school and taught him (often letting him learn the things he was interested in on his own) at home.

Thomas Edison is famous for inventing the light bulb. But, his success is much greater than that one invention. He basically designed and created the entire electric industry! The companies he started are worth BILLIONS of dollars!

There is no telling what will happen when a brain is released, when a person decides to achieve great things. There are many more people who were labeled as being defective who have achieved greatness, because they didn’t let the labels stop them.

Labels (such as ADHD) don’t define you! You are an individual person with your own set of abilities! It is up to you to make the most of your abilities, and to go get the success that you can achieve!

To get your son’s typing speed up to par, we suggest the TypeRighting Program. It was designed to make it easy for people to increase typing speed -- but more importantly to increase typing accuracy. After all, who would want to type fast -- but WRONG?

Whatever the starting typing speed, the speed can be increased. So, get the TypeRighting program and get your son busy practicing, putting him on the path to success.

We look forward to reading your son’s success stories.

P.S. When I was young I was labeled as learning disabled, but I didn’t let that stop me from learning, and becoming an international success story. Do it!
